Salem’s Lot on Max Release Date
Originally published in 1975, King’s ‘Salem’s Lot was the horror master’s second novel (after Carrie). The story follows Ben Mears, an author who returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot only to discover it has been infested by vampires. Ultimately Mears assembles a team of local heroes to confront the head vamp in charge, Barlow. However, such a formidable enemy cannot be toppled without a price paid in blood.

Over the intervening years, ‘Salem’s Lot has been adapted several times (always as “Salem’s Lot“). The first was a television miniseries that aired in 1979. Several decades later, in 2004, another television miniseries was released. This one starred some heavy hitters, including Rob Lowe, James Cromwell, Rutger Hauer and Donald Sutherland. More recently, in 2019, Castle Rock Season 2 featured a “remix” adaptation of ‘Salem’s Lot and Misery, with a significant amount of the narrative being set in Marsten House.
The new adaptation debuting on Max is written, directed and executive produced by Gary Dauberman. And it also features some big-name cast members. Lewis Pullman will play Mears, Alfre Woodard will play Dr. Cody and Makenzie Leigh will portray Susan Norton. Bill Camp will appear as Matthew Burke, Spencer Treat Clark as Mike Ryerson and Pilou Asbæk as Straker. Finally, John Benjamin Hickey will play Father Callahan. This character is especially notable to King devotees thanks to his reappearance in the 2003 novel The Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla and its two sequels.
