Saddest Deaths in Horror Movies
“There are certain RULES that one must abide by in order to successfully survive a horror movie. For instance, number one: you can never have sex. BIG NO NO! BIG NO NO! Sex equals death, okay? Number two: you can never drink or do drugs. The sin factor! It’s a sin. It’s an extension of number one. And number three: never, ever, ever under any circumstances say, “I’ll be right back.” Because you won’t be back!” -Randy, Scream (1996)
Randy was a bit of an eccentric though he did have a point. It’s an unspoken cliche that most of the characters who die in horror movies deserve what they got coming. Whether it be just because they’re a crappy person or because a dumb decision easily put them in the clutches of a killer, we aren’t that sad to see them go. But there’s always that one exception. That one superstar who did everything right and deserved to live. Yet they perish anyway.
Here is a list of some characters that literally didn’t make the cut and gave us all the feels. This is your official spoiler warning.
Charlie Linderman- Freddy vs. Jason (2003)
In Freddy vs. Jason , Charlie Linderman was a teenager who lived in Springwood, Ohio. He was a bit of a dork and had a painfully obvious crush on the movie’s main character Lori who was, respectfully, out of his league. Nevertheless, Linderman pushed his heartbreak aside to assist his friends in stopping Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger; all while setting his sights on someone new. After finally sticking up for himself something shifts between Linderman and Lori’s best friend Kia, who’s usually pretty cruel to him. They share a dance at a party which leaves the impression that there’s something more between this unlikely duo. After saving Kia from Jason, Linderman sustains a pretty serious injury that he plays off as nothing major. And as he sat dying he watched Kira vanish in the woods for help with the tiniest of smiles on his face, hinting that at some point he developed a soft spot for the girl that usually made him the butt of every joke.
Lisa Hines- Prom Night (2008)
Lisa Hines was the best friend of the movie’s main character, Donna. She helped Donna as she went through the trauma of losing her family, was intelligent and was even a prom queen nominee; the unofficial underdog against the super popular and rich Crissy Lynn. After going back to her hotel room with her long time boyfriend, Ronnie, she finally recognizes the creepy guy she saw downstairs as her former science teacher turned Donna’s obsessive stalker. Lisa leaves to warn Donna, flees into the safety of the hotel’s basement and ends up getting her throat slit. What makes the scene even more gut wrenching is while all this is going on Ronnie is back in the room, waiting for Lisa while examining the engagement ring he bought her.

Ben Tramer- Halloween II (1981)
Any fans of the original Halloween know Laurie Strode suffered a great tragedy even before Michael Myers made his appearance. She confessed to liking a boy named Ben Tramer. Being the good friend she was, Annie called Ben to divulge this information. Laurie was naturally horrified but flattered to hear the feelings were mutual. After the terrible events of Halloween, Laurie is rushed to the hospital in Halloween II. Meanwhile, Ben is walking home from a party very drunk and wearing a costume identical to Michael Myers’. Dr. Loomis spots this doppelganger and, assuming it really is Michael, chases him. In his attempt to get away Ben is then hit by a police car, pinned to the side of a van that explodes.
Julie McKenna- Wes Craven’s New Nightmare (1994)
Julie was the ideal nanny in Wes Craven’s New Nightmare. Her sweet and caring nature made her the ideal fit for movie star Heather Langenkamp’s son Dylan. Even when it seemed like Heather was going crazy Julie still went out of her way to look after Dylan, she even punched a nurse when they tricked Dylan into taking a drug that would make him fall asleep. Unfortunately, the drug works and Freddy uses Dylan’s dream to come into the real world. In a similar fashion to Tina’s death in the original Nightmare on Elm Street, Freddy stabs her in the back and drags her up the walls and ceiling before finally breaking her neck.
Ismael Cruz- Halloween (2007)
In Halloween (2007), Ismael Cruz was a floor warden at Smith’s Grove Sanitarium where ten-year-old Michael Myers was admitted. He instantly tries to befriend the boy despite Michael not willing to talk to anyone. Many years later, about two decades, Ismael is about three months away from retirement when Michael breaks out of his cell. Ismeal stumbles upon him and calmly tries to usher him back to his room. That obviously didn’t go over too well. Michael attempts to drown Ismeal in a sink full of water then crushes his head television, his last words “I was good to you Mikey… I was good to you Mikey…“
