Star Trek 4 has its director in S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones, Orange is the New Black, Dexter).  She will be the first female director to helm a Star Trek film in franchise history.  And, that is very big, very good news!

Star Trek 4, that is yet to be given a title, is said to be centered around George Kirk, James T. Kirk’s father.  Chris Hemsworth played the senior Kirk in the original reboot of the franchise in 2009.  Hemsworth is slated to do Star Trek 4, which is great news given the fact that his turn as Kirk in the first movie was truly notable and compelling, if short.  He’s only rocketed to super-stardom since.  No big deal.

Word on the street is that the plot of the fourth movie will involve Jim Kirk (Chris Pine) meeting his father in some kind of time travel situation.  Zachary Quinto is also signed on for the film.  This according to Variety, Thursday.

The addition of S.J. Clarkson is not only a victory for inclusion and representation in the field of directing, but for the film itself.  She’s a power house.  And, we are very excited to see how she steers this beloved ship.
