Ryan Murphy is at it again, this time with a semi-true tale about Hollywood.  Set in the 1940s, the Netflix series explores the tales of homophobia, sexism, and racism in Tinseltown.

Murphy described it as “a love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown” when he first announced the project last year.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy is recreating real-life history and reimagining the story to give these characters the ending they deserve.

Aspiring actors and filmmakers take a chance on an African American screenwriter and his film that features an African American female lead.  On top of that, the screenwriter is in a homosexual relationship with a white leading actor.  The cast and crew face a lot of backlash and ridicule that almost ends their dreams.

Hollywood stars Darren Criss, Jake Picking, Laura Harrier, Jeremy Pope, Jim Parsons, Patti LuPone, Joe Mantello, Dylan McDermott, David Corenswet, Holland Taylor, and Samara Weaving. As well as plenty of guest stars as seen in the trailer.  Here is the official synopsis:

HOLLYWOOD follows a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers in post-World War II Hollywood as they try to make it in Tinseltown — no matter the cost. Each character offers a unique glimpse behind the gilded curtain of Hollywood’s Golden Age, spotlighting the unfair systems and biases across race, gender, and sexuality that continue to this day.

Hollywood premieres May 1, 2020 on Netflix.
