The Russo Brothers are up to their old social media tricks again. We’ve seen them post inexplicable things before, such as a piece of Spider-Man’s costume in Captain America: Civil War before anyone really knew what it was. More recently, they showed the close up of what looked like an explosion when they started shooting for Avengers: Infinity War. However, today they’ve actually given us something we can tease out and play with.

On their Instagram earlier today they posted a pic from the set of Infinity War, presumably at Durham Cathedral in Scotland. The picture shows a priest talking with Joe Russo and, lo and behold, the priest is holding a very familiar artifact. And by familiar artifact we mean none other than Thor’s Mjolnir.
Now, under any other circumstances, this would not be a big deal; it’s just Thor’s weapon of choice, no different than a priest holding Captain America’s mighty shield or a quiver of arrows from Hawkeye. What makes this such a big deal is that the trailers for Thor: Ragnarok show Mjolnir being decimated by the Asgardian Goddess of Death, Hela.
There are a few options as we see it. One, Thor gets a new Mjolnir for Infinity War. Maybe throughout the course of that film, which hits theatres in November, Thor is able to commission another hammer from the Dwarf Eitri in time to beat the snot out of Thanos. However, and more likely, this is from a dream sequence that sees Thor returning to Asgard. It seems to us that this is more likely a vision given to Thor regarding the Infinity Stones and Asgard’s role in it.
Or, maybe a random priest no one’s ever heard of finds Mjolnir and is, indeed, as the post says, “Worthy.”
