Magic: The Gathering fans just got some exciting news this morning with the announcement of a new animated series. Not only will the series be produced by Netflix, it’s been headed by Avengers: Endgame directors the Russo Brothers! That’s right, Anthony and Joe Russo are teaming up with Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro’s Allspark Animation to bring the card game into a new medium.

According to Variety, the series will feature a brand new story line while also expanding on the stories of the planeswalkers. We don’t know too much outside of that but we learned how excited the Russo Brothers are to bring the series to life in their statement. “We have been huge fans and players of Magic: The Gathering for as long as it has been around, so being able to help bring these stories to life through animation is a true passion project for us.”

Magic: The Gathering was created in 1993 by Richard Garfield. The collectible card game took the table top scene by storm and has continued to be an incredibly popular game. Each player takes the role of a planeswalker, a powerful, magic-wielding being. The series has expanded beyond the table top and has since been a best-selling novel, comic book series, and even an esports league. This will be the first time the game will become a television series.

What do you think of the news? Are you looking forward to an animated series by The Russo Brothers? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more table top news! There is currently no release date for the animated series.
