Yet another rumor from Hollywood’s Master of Whispers, Umberto “El Mayimbe” Gonzales from Heroic Hollywood, gives us a possible, very odd direction for Wolverine 3, supposedly the last film for Hugh Jackman who’s been the cornerstone of Fox’s Mutant Powerhouse. A guest on the Marvel Movie News on the Popcorn Talk Network, Gonzales says that he’s heard the third Wolverine film will somehow be based on the comic book Old Man Logan.
Old Man Logan was written by Mark Millar and drawn by Steven McNiven, set in an alternate future where all the heroes lost, killed by a consortium of every single villain ever. Now an old man and refusing to pop his claws for a reason we don’t learn of until much later, he’s given the chance to save his family from a gang of in-bred hulks by teaming up with a blind Hawkeye on a cross-country journey.
This would be a tricky one to adapt to a film, especially within the confines of an inter-connected universe. It’s possible that X-Men:Apocalypse film will end with a world left dystopian or will lead to an alternate universe for the Wolverine threequel to pick up on, but even then, they’ll have to do some very creative re-writing to get around the characters they don’t have licenses to.
Wolverine III is scheduled for release on March 3, 2017.
