There’s been one film that continually comes up in regards to future Lucasfilm projects. An Obi-Wan Kenobi film. While it was said to be in development back in 2017, news on production was silent. At one point it was thought to be cancelled along with a slew of other projects. However, an original Obi-Wan story could finally be in the works, just not in the way we thought.

StarWarsNewsNet reported yesterday that a mini-series featuring the Jedi Knight was in the works for the upcoming streaming service, Disney+. Apparently the film has been shifted into a series with “as many as six episodes”. It’s completely unclear if this will be a live-action series featuring Ewan McGregor or an animated series with voice actor James Arnold Taylor. There’s been no official announcement or if this rumor has any merit. However Taylor seemed to insight some fun by reposting the news with a cheeky “Hello there!”

I can very easily and happily say that I have been one of those fans calling for an Obi-Wan Kenobi film. He’s one of my favorite characters in the entire saga and McGregor’s performance is something I continually point to. If we can’t get a film, I would be thrilled with a mini-series. While a large chunk of his story has already been told in the saga films, I just can’t help but want more. Yes, I’m biased. There just seems to be more we can learn from what happened between fighting his best friend on Mustafar to becoming an enigmatic mentor Luke meets.
