This is big news, Marvel fans. According to TheWrap, we may finally have the film many of us have been wanting to see since 2010 – a Black Widow movie. Yes, everyone. Yes. Now before we freak out too much, this news should be taken with a large grain of salt as we have no official sources. However, if this rumor is true – we’re going to get another super heroine film and that’s something we can all celebrate.
So what does the rumor entail exactly? Well according to TheWrap, Marvel has hired screenwriter Jac Schaeffer to pen the Widow script. This newcomer is best known for her film debut with TiMER, which she directed, wrote and produced. One of her more known credits is Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, a 22 minute short featuring the famous faces of Frozen. She’s also the screenwriter for upcoming Nasty Women, starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. Given her credits, it seems an odd choice to pick. But we already know Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is committed to creating a Black Widow film, so it’s not too much of a stretch.
But we’ve been teased about a Black Widow film for years. Is this truly going to happen? It’s something we’re going to have to wait out for. But if this were to happen, we can only hope that it will really focus on the lethal assassin. She’s such a cool character that she deserves it! And to continually pound the drum – we need more representation and spotlight on these heroines! If we don’t get a film, maybe we’ll still have Red Sparrow to look to instead?
