According to MCU Exchange, the hyper-talented, in-demand and on-the-rise director of Selma, Ava DuVernay, is confirmed to be Marvel’s choice to direct their film, Black Panther, scheduled for release July 6, 2018.
Both The Wrap and We Are Wakanda have pointed at her as a strong possibility in the past, but this is the first report we’ve had confirming her as the choice to fill the chair.
Apparently, a part of the deal in finding the director three years ahead of shooting is that they need her to report to the set of Captain America: Civil War to give her opinions on Wakanda, since she’ll be taking on the nation when she makes her Marvel Cinematic debut.
Chadwick Boseman was confirmed as T’Challa, the Black Panther, last October at Marvel’s big fan event where they announced the slate for the rest of phase three.
