“Destiny, it’s bullshit!”
The first few episodes of season one of Syfy’s The Magicians came across as Harry Potter for grown ups. As season one took shape, the show became a smart, witty and artistically beautiful show to make all lovers of fantasy fiction take heed.
Season one was all about the cast, most of them students at the magical school of Brakebills University, learning the craft of magic and dealing with their inner demons. The entire season was steeped in tales of the fictional world of Fillory, which turned out to be very real.
In this season two trailer, we see that the group did not die in the season one cliffhanger (duh!). However, they are now the rulers of Fillory and all it’s magic splendor. With that responsibility, comes the fact that they will have new enemies to deal with and of course, the big baddie of season one, the Beast who seems to have Julia under his tutelage. If they don’t succeed in the world of Fillory, then the world of magic dies everywhere.

The Magicians returns to Syfy for Season 2 on January 25.
Based upon Lev Grossman’s best-selling books, The Magicians centers around Brakebills University, a secret institution specializing in magic. There, amidst an unorthodox education of spellcasting, a group of twenty-something friends soon discover that a magical fantasy world they read about as children is all too real— and poses grave danger to humanity.
