Earlier this week, Deadline dropped exclusive casting news for the upcoming Lockwood & Co. series coming to Netflix. The supernatural mystery is being adapted from the young adult novels of the same name by Jonathan Stroud. Ruby Stokes, who portrays Franchesca in Netflix’s highly popular series Bridgerton, will be leading the series as the main character Lucy Carlyle. She is joined by newcomers Cameron Chapman and Ali Hadji-Heshmati. Joe Cornish will be serving as Lockwood & Co.‘s director.
Lockwood & Co. is set in a London very similar to our own. Except that ghosts have overrun it. Of course, there are gifted teenage ghost-hunters who venture nightly into dangerous combat with deadly spirits. This is where Lucy and her friends and colleagues Anthony Lockwood (Chapman) and George Karim (Hadji-Heshmati) come in. Together they run Lockwood & Co. and compete with a plethora of corporate, adult-run agencies.

The first novel in Stroud’s series, The Screaming Staircase, follows Lucy’s introduction to Lockwood & Co. as she joins them on a case to investigate the most haunted house in England, Combe Carey Hall. There are a total of five books within the series, so hopefully, we will be seeing five seasons at least. While they are listed as young adult, Stroud’s novels have found a home within the hearts of readers of all ages.
The Lockwood & Co. series doesn’t shy away from the darker themes, which makes it so appealing to older readers. Mix that in with a Sherlock Holmes-style mystery and you have yourself a series worth reading. And soon worth watching. Netflix has seen a lot of success adapting novels for the screen, including Bridgerton and Shadow and Bone. Let’s hope that their luck continues as they venture to bring Stroud’s world to life.
Stokes, Chapman and Hadji-Heshmati are joined by Ivanno Jeremiah, Luke Treadaway, Morven Christie, Jack Bandeira, Ben Crompton, Hayley Konadu, Rhianna Dorris and Paddy Holland. Hopefully, with casting out of the way, production on this series will kick off soon! What do you think of the Lockwood & Co. casting? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
