For those of you that want to see someone revisit the John Carpenter dystopian classic, Escape from New York, you are in luck. FOX is remaking the film with Carpenter executive producing. Robert Rodriguez is in talks to direct, Variety reports.
Reboots aren’t always the most popular choice for die-hard fans of any particular film, but the addition of Rodriguez can’t be bad news to anyone. Known for his own cult classics, El Mariachi, Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and From Dusk Till Dawn, he’s a pretty excellent choice to handle Escape from New York.

If they can lock down Rodriguez, the next question has to be, who will replace Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken? Nobody wore an eyepatch like Snake (call me Plissken), and it’s hard to replace that Kurt Russell’s charm and timing. Will it even feature Plissken (call me Snake)? Perhaps they’ll reboot with a new narrative. Maybe Russell will reprise the role! And, will it still be set in 1997? Pretty exciting stuff!
We’ll keep you informed. Stay tuned.
