Robert Eggers, directer of the bone chilling The Witch, (onscreen, The VVitch) has returned from his movie making hiatus with the trailer for his latest project, The Lighthouse. In this psychodrama starring Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe, Eggers appears pays homage to the classic black and white movies. Which seems very appropriate for this particular movie.

The trailer depicts a seedy air of mystery as we see two lighthouse keepers slowly but surely slip into madness. This is most likely the direct result of their stay on a very mysterious New England island. As if that wasn’t bad enough we also get glimpses of a terrible storm. Not only does this storm seem to contribute to the encompassing paranoia, it may even grow big enough to sweep these lighthouse keepers off to sea.

Frankly, it looks nuts and I’m very excited about it. Especially since it was shot on 35mm film. October cannot come fast enough. Check out the bizarre beauty and the striking black and white in the trailer below!

The Lighthouse debuts in theaters October 18th!
