The android Mother in Ridley Scott's Raised By Wolves

The first trailer for HBO Max’s Raised By Wolves premiered on August 5th and it was sweet, sweet nightmare fuel for science fiction fans. The second trailer was released today and it gives more insight into the story and guess what, it’s still presents as the most wonderful nightmare fuel. I cannot wait.

In the insane first trailer of the Ridley Scott produced series, we learned Earth has been destroyed by a great war and there is a new planet for humanity. Two androids called Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim) are tasked with raising human children so that the species doesn’t disappear. However, humans arrive on the planet, led by Hunter (Travis Fimmel), to harsh their mellow. And, that’s all we learned.

With this second trailer, we find out that Mother and Father came alone to this virgin planet. Once settled, Mother carried the children in her own robot body and, we see her actually become maternal and bond with her children. They teach their young ones that Earth fell because humans believed in the unreal. In other words, humans had religion. Mother and Father are raising their children to be atheists so that humanity will survive this go-around.

A gigantic space ship, or “ark,” arrives from Earth with surviving religious zealots and therein lies the conflict of the show. The humans believe that it is a sin for an android to raise a child and they want to claim the children. The androids think differently and just like with humans, don’t get in between a mama and her child. Mother gets all kinds of protective and she uses stunning powers to guard her children. The war and suffering that they came to the planet to prevent, is back. Whose side are you on?

The cast also includes Winta McGrathNiamh AlgarJordan LoughranMatias VarelaFelix JamiesonEthan Hazzard, Aasiya Shah and Ivy Wong.

Check out the second trailer for Raised By Wolves below. The visuals are trademark Ridley Scott stunning.

(On a personal nerd note, the uniforms that Hunter and his people wear remind me of what the Children of the Light wear in The Wheel of Time. I guess sunbursts are the go-to for religious zealots?)

The series premieres September 3rd on HBO Max
