Revival of the Dead
Syfy is looking toward the future. The channel is developing Revival, an adaptation of the horror comic book series of the same name by writer Tim Seeley and artist Mike Norton. Revival ran as a 47-issue series from July 2012 to February 2017.
Here’s a synopsis per Syfy:
“On one miraculous day in rural Wisconsin, the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves. But this is no zombie story, as the ‘revived’ appear and act just like they once were. When local officer and single mother Dana Cypress is unexpectedly thrown into the center of a brutal murder mystery of her own, she’s left to make sense of the chaos amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.”

The Main Cast
Melanie Scrofano
We finally have a main cast for Revival. Variety reports that Melanie Scrofano will lead the charge as Dana Cypress. Scrofano is most known for portraying the titular gunslinger in Wynonna Earp and Wynonna Earp: Vengeance. She’s also recurred on Letterkenny as Mrs. McMurray and on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as Captain Marie Batel.
Dana constantly has “to prove her worth to a stubborn sheriff, who just so happens to be her father. And just when she is about to leave her small town for good, the events of Revival Day change that, instead sending her into her most important case to date.”
Romy Weltman
Next up is Romy Weltman, who plays Martha “Em” Cypress. Weltman recently starred as Elena in the 2023 thriller The Plot to Kill My Mother. As for Em, she’s the sheriff’s younger daughter who’s “led a very sheltered life due to a recurring illness and is still figuring out her place in the world. A world that, for her in particular, is now turned upside down.”

Andy McQueen
Then, we have Andy McQueen, who portrays Ibrahim Ramin, a CDC scientist “stationed in Wausau to study the bizarre phenomenon that brought people back to life.” McQueen starred in the 2023 miniseries Mrs. Davis as Jay and recurred on Outer Banks as Carlos Singh.
David James Elliott
Lastly, there’s David James Elliott, who joins Revival as Wayne Cypress, the sheriff of Wausau, “determined to keep his town and family as normal and safe as possible — a tall order when the dead return to life in the small town he’s sworn to protect.” While Elliott recurred on Heels as Tom Spade, he’s well known for starring in JAG as Harmon Rabb, which ran from 1995 to 2005.
Revival hails from showrunners Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce. They serve as executive producers alongside Scrofano. The series is currently in production in New Brunswick, Canada.
