The Story So Far on Only Murders in the Building
Only Murders in the Building follows three residents of the Arconia apartment building in New York City. Although they start out as strangers, Charles (Steve Martin), Mabel (Selena Gomez) and Oliver (Martin Short) bond over their obsession with true crime podcasts. When bodies begin turning up at the Arconia, they suspect murder and set off to solve the potential crimes while creating a podcast of their own.
Season 4 saw the gang traveling from New York City to Los Angeles, where a Hollywood studio wanted to adapt their podcast into a full-fledged film. When they realized Charles’ stunt double Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch) was murdered, they rushed back to NYC to crack the case. With 49 Emmy nominations and 12 Golden Globe nominations, including Best Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series nods for Martin, Short and Gomez, no one was surprised when Hulu announced a renewal for Season 5 in September.

What We Know
The upcoming season will have 10 episodes, and production has already begun, with Martin, Short and Gomez spotted filming in New York City. We also have a few new cast members revealed. After a brief appearance in the Season 4 finale, Madame Secretary star Téa Leoni will return as Sofia Caccimelio, wife of Nicky “The Neck” Caccimelio, a missing person with ties to a major crime family. Previously announced guests include Christoph Waltz and Keegan-Michael Key.
Joining them is two-time Oscar winner Renée Zellweger, Deadline revealed in an exclusive. Like most of the new cast members, there’s no information yet about her role. Most recently seen in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, she reprised the 2001 role that earned her first Academy Award nomination. Since then, she made her television debut in Netflix’s 2019 social thriller What/If, as well as a role in 2022’s The Thing About Pam. Zellweger will next serve as executive producer on the upcoming Apple TV+ thriller series Raising Wild.
