We have a new trailer for Ready Player One; released Thursday. Where the previous trailer focused heavily on the magic and adventure that the OASIS provides, this one reminds us of the danger.

The content of this trailer isn’t a whole lot different from the first trailer. We do get some new images, but the biggest difference is the tone. The first trailer was set to Van Halen‘s “Jump”. It was about escape, adventure, and James Haliday’s (Mark Rylance) treasure hunt to control the OASIS. We heard about a “war for control of the future” but the trailer was really about the thrill of the hunt.

In the new trailer you feel the stakes. You take in the danger. It’s much more about Wade (Tye Sheridan), his mission, his journey, and the threats that he faces (and presents) as he takes control of the OASIS. A haunting cover of “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory makes those threats feel eerily present.

Ready Player One is directed by Steven Spielberg and based on the novel by Ernest Cline. We can’t wait for this movie! Check it out.

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

Ready Player One is scheduled to hit theaters on March 29th, 2018.
