If the music doesn’t hype you up for Bohemian Rhapsody, then Rami Malek will. The latest trailer is now available for the the upcoming Queen biopic. And Malek as front man Freddie Mercury is memorizing.
Bohemian Rhapsody follows the band Queen before their days of fame up until their famous Live Aid performance in 1985. The movie stars Mr. Robot‘s Malek, Gwilym Lee (Jamestown) as Brian May, Joseph Mazzello (Jurassic Park) as John Deacon, and Ben Hardy (X-Men: Apocalypse) as Roger Taylor.
In the band’s beginning, they weren’t getting any air time on the radio. So they turned to experimenting with the music to gain attention. Songs like “Bohemian Rhapsody” got them noticed and the rest is history.
There is also a sad story within the story. Throughout his career, Mercury avoided questions about his personal life. In the 1980’s, Mercury’s flamboyant onstage behavior led to many rumors about his sexuality. This movie addresses his personal life, including the disease that eventually took his life. Mercury died in November of 1991.
Throughout the trailer, Malek captivates as Mercury. He’s is outstanding in the performance scenes, wearing the iconic spandex suits that Mercury made famous. And though the spotlight is on Malek, Hardy shines through performing the high pitch Galileo parts of the song “Bohemian Rhapsody”. He almost steals a scene until Mercury tells him, “there’s only room in this band for one hysterical queen.”
I’ve watched this trailer like ten times already…and you can too. Check it out below.
