Star Trek fans have been wondering how many known characters from the already established prime universe will appear in Star Trek: Discovery. We know that James Frain will play Sarek, Spock’s father. Today, we found out another original character will appear in the new Star Trek series. Rainn Wilson has been cast as the interstellar snake oil salesman, famous liar and lovable rogue, Harry Mudd. Wilson, quite frankly is perfect casting for Mudd. In the Original Series, Mudd could certainly try a person’s patience but one couldn’t help to admire his wit and want to give him a hug.

Harcourt Fenton “Harry” Mudd was a male Human civilian in the 23rd century. He was a notorious con artist encountered several times by the crew of the USS Enterprise. Essentially more of a lovable rogue than a true villain, he lived by his wits on the other side of the law.  ~Memory Alpha

Wilson joins the already healthy and talented cast of Star Trek: Discovery which includes lead Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead), Anthony Rapp, Jason Isaacs, Doug Jones, Michelle Yeoh, Terry Serpico, Maulik Pancholy, Sam Vartholomeos, Mary Chieffo, Shazad Latif, Chris Obi and the previously mentioned James Frain.
