Homemade Princess Bride remake airs on Quibi

The mere mention of a remake of The Princess Bride sets the masses on fire! But this is one remake that may be the exception.  A-list actors came together during quarantine to recreate the beloved film using only their cell phone cameras. Quibi will show the film, chapter by chapter for the next few weeks.

Jason Reitman, came up with the idea back in March. The project is actually a fundraiser for the World Central Kitchen, an organization helping thousands of restaurants stay open “by paying them to provide meals to the needy.”

“The week that the stay-at-home order came through in California, I just woke up one of the first mornings, I think like most people did, feeling as though, All right, I need to be able to do something of value. I just thought, Can we remake an entire movie at home? And I had seen that a fan-made Star Wars had been done. I just started reaching out to actors I knew, saying, ‘Is this something you’d want to do?’ And the response was kind of immediate and fast. It was like, ‘Oh—that sounds like fun.’” – Jason Reitman, Vanity Fair

The Princess Bride, OG film director Rob Reiner gave his blessing to the project. He is also involved, playing the grandfather reading the story to his sick grandson, played by Josh Gad. The film also got blessings from Norman Lear who controls the rights to the film, the estate of William Goldman who wrote the book, and Mark Knopfhler, composer of the film’s score.
