Highlights

  • The game got the funds it needed within six minutes of its launch on Kickstarter.
  • You can still back Quest Snakes, though, until later this month.

Quest Snakes

Looking for a brand new easy, fast and replayable card game where you recruit derpy snakes to embark on wacky quests? Gear up, pick a guild and prepare to set out on an adventure to volley for the king’s favor.

Quest Snakes takes place in Scaledonia, a world ruled by medieval snakes under threat from their evil bird adversaries. Our goal with the Quest Snake IP is to develop a rich cast of characters and locations to expand our storytelling capabilities.

The Basics

Three cards from the Kickstarter game Quest Snakes, featuring "Wittle Wizard" on the left, "Bo" in the center, and "Slippy" on the right.

The Quest Snakes party card game is the first physical product that begins to scratch the surface of Scaldeonia by introducing 60 unique snakes and 30 unique quests. The snakes naturally flesh out our cast of characters, while the quests allude to key locations and events related to Scaledonia.

The snakes are broken up into classes familiar to D&D players. The current base game showcases Wizards, which consists of the Colubridae family(common snakes). Rogues are the Viperidae family (vipers), and Warriors are the Pythonidae & Boidae (Pythons/boas), with the potential for expansions in the future.

About Real Fake Games

This is the first game from Real Fake Games, but they are no newbies to the world of media production. A dynamic duo of game dev veterans who have worked on projects ranging from tabletop to AAA console games team up to bring wacky, one-of-a-kind games inspired by fun and nonsense.

A friendship forged a decade ago when working on a video game production between Dick Durden and Vee Lee brought this silly, high-strategy game to life. Dick Durden has worked on titles such as Duelyst, Godfall, Project: Eden’s Garden and Quest Snakes as a producer and designer. Vee Lee has worked on titles such as DreamWorks Voltron VR Chronicles, Godfall, Quest Snakes and several unannounced titles as an animator, concept artist, and art director.

Geek Girl Authority caught up with Vee Lee to learn more about the inspiration behind the game. Vee started with aspirations of turning Quest Snakes into a video game as a tribute to their Grandma Ruth. Growing up, Vee was enamored with reptiles and made it their mission to rescue swimming snakes from the pool, all to the horror of their grandmother.

Despite her fear, Grandma Ruth took Vee to every reptile show and snake handling lesson. Players can even find her in-game tribute card. You can see more of Vee’s loose, fun art style and sense of humor in the free animated music video below.

Why Kickstarter?

Kickstarter campaigns are all or nothing, but there’s no danger of disappointment here. Quest Snakes gained not only the coveted “Project We Love” banner from Kickstarter but also funded in the first six minutes of launch. Beyond a seriously impressive launch, there is a lot to look forward to from this campaign, with more stretch goals added to celebrate the success of the community.

The game is currently in an advanced stage of development, with plans for a release in 2025. Quest Snakes is on Kickstarter until Halloween Day, 2024. The campaign is fully funded, but there is still plenty of time to back the project before the closing date.
