During PlayStation 5’s Future of Gaming presentation, we got our first in-depth look at DEATHLOOP, the latest title from Arkane Lyon. Dinga Bakaba and Sébastien Mitton initially introduced DEATHLOOP during the E3 2019: Bethesda Conference. We finally got our first real look at the story and gameplay, and DEATHLOOP does NOT disappoint.

From the premise and gameplay alone, DEATHLOOP looks like the fusion of Groundhog’s DayBioshock, and Spy vs. Spy. The game centers around two rival assassins: Colt and Julianna. Colt has been stuck in Black Reef, tasked with hunting eight different targets to achieve his freedom. However, he is stuck in a time loop, and once he dies, everything resets back to square one. Meanwhile, Juliana, Black Reef’s protector, is constantly hunting down Colt, ensuring he does not break his time loop. If you’ve played Arkane Studios other titles (Dishonored or Prey), DEATHLOOP definitely looks familiar. In addition to an arsenal of weapons, it appears that Colt (and possibly Juliana) will have temporal manipulative abilities that allow them to shadow step, lift enemies, and more. 

An interesting element of the game is that you can choose between a single-player or multiplayer experience. When you play as Colt, you can choose to have an actual player hunting you as Julianna. Or if you prefer a more personal experience, an AI Juliana can be locked on your trail. Along with the game’s gorgeous late-60’s aesthetics, DEATHLOOP promises a unique and thrilling experience for all who play. Will you be the hunter or the hunted? 

DEATHLOOP will be available sometime during Holiday 2020 for the PS5 and PC
