The Wheel of Time Season 3 Episode 7, “Goldeneyes,” boasts a pivotal battle that decides the fate of the Two Rivers, and smack dab in the middle of the mayhem is our favorite Aes Sedai of the Green Ajah, Alanna Mosvani (Priyanka Bose). As we learned a few episodes ago, Alanna’s decision to visit Emond’s Field is predicated on her desire to amass an army for the inevitable Last Battle.
At the same time, she butts heads with her Warder Maksim (Taylor Napier) on how best to move forward after the murder of her other Warder, Ihvon (Emmanuel Imani). Alanna and Maksim have their respective ways of grieving, which complicates their bond all the more.
Recently, I had the privilege of chatting with Priyanka for a few minutes about Alanna’s role in “Goldeneyes,” Alanna and Maksim’s bond and her dance background.
This interview is edited for clarity.
Priyanka Bose on The Wheel of Time’s “Goldeneyes”

Melody McCune: This week’s episode is incredible. It’s so massive in scope and scale. What was it like getting to train for and film those battle sequences?
Priyanka Bose: Oh my God, I’ve waited for action all my life. I just wish I had more energy, to be very frank, but it was everything. The whole team was so epic. They’re so good at what they do. I was in such good hands. My worry was, “Oh my God, I shouldn’t fail anybody.” Action is by far such a fun thing to do. The fact is, there are such great stunt ladies out there who make us look good. I feel like an action star. [laughs]
MM: You are an action star.
PB: Thank you.
A Graceful Channeler
MM: Alanna’s channeling is graceful yet commanding. There’s a dancer quality to it. Were you inspired by a dancer in particular, or was it more down to working with a choreographer?
PB: I have been a dancer all my life. Because of our cultural conditioning, we get to dance and sing a lot. At some point, my parents were wondering when that would get out of my system, but it never did. I’m glad for it.
Because of my two knee operations, I have stopped rehearsing the way I used to or working with a dance company. I feel like my dancing discipline and the muscle memory I carry with me have helped me access anything with my whole body first, like a visceral experience of the emotion I’m going to put out there. I know everyone’s methods are very different, but for me, first, it needs to be in my body, and then it comes out. It’s a very definite instinct I feel.

Alanna and Maksim’s Bond

MM: Before the battle in this episode, we see Alanna and Maksim finally mend fences after struggling to keep their bond intact in the wake of Ihvon’s death. Do you think this is a necessary step forward toward healing for them? And what was it like getting to work with Taylor on that?
PB: First of all, Taylor is a gem. It’s been great to partner with him and to get to know him as a person. He annoys me so much, but we are all here. He accepts my little nuances and my naughtiness. At the same time, the gradual step of their journey was very interesting because for her to lose her Warder and to really understand the value of it was via Maksim’s journey through grief.
I feel like Alanna is not a cold person, but she’s lost many Warders in her lifetime. You see her loyalty through this whole journey. You see her commitment toward the White Tower and the politics against it. It’s through Maksim’s grief that you know her as a person and how she also deals with her grief over losing a friend.
Thank you, Priyanka, for chatting with GGA!
