Mischief is best enacted in small groups at very close quarters.
The Season 2 premiere of Showtime’s Penny Dreadful was a wild, wonderful hour full of artful creepiness, scares and gore. Surprisingly, the Season 2 premiere numbers were down from the Season 1 premiere but I’m here to tell you that this past episode was better than the entirety of Season 1.
Giving Madame Kali/ Evelyn Poole a big piece of the storyline for Season 2 will be nothing but beneficial. Helen McCrory’s portrayal of Kali/Poole is intense and nightmare inducing. Kali’s little band of witches doesn’t help sooth one’s dreams either. Add to this new plot, Dr. Frankenstein’s (Harry Treadaway) penchant for molesting corpses, Vanessa Ives’ (Eva Green) internal struggle, Ethan Chandler’s (Josh Hartnett) dark Canis Lupis secret and The Creature’s new employment opportunity, this season will be a bloody, scary thrill ride. Oh yes! And as you’ll see in the clips below, our favorite Egyptologist and curator, Ferdinand Lyle is back!
