If you are like me and still haven’t gotten over that one scene in 1997’s Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back, well Netflix is here to make sure you never do. Announced today on their twitter after some cute banter between them and the official Pokemon twitter, we now know they have remade the film. The newly titled Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back- Evolution features an updated art style using computer animated graphics. Originally released in Japan on July 12, 2019.
The worldwide release of Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back- Evolution will be exclusive to Netflix. Fans of the original movie will be happy to know that the story hasn’t changed, just the animation. Which means that anyone with a heart will be balling their eyes out while simultaneously cheering for Pikachu. The remake marks the 22nd installment in the beloved franchise and shows that they plan on still producing more content.
Now I have been a fan of the franchise since the Gameboy days and have loved the journey they have taken. However, I was still a little put off by the art style when I watched the trailer. But after the third or fourth time I watched the trailer it had settled on me. But the true test will be how I feel watching a full length film in this style. Regardless, I am beyond excited to relive this tale again.
Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back- Evolution will release on Netflix February 27, 2020.
