Plot

Dakota (Dak) Prentiss is the chief security officer at the Quill Marine compound. Quill Marine is a military outpost with a big secret. Even as an employee, getting in takes step after step of identity verification. When new recruit Matt Salem arrives, he throws Dak through a loop. An instant attraction, leading to a highly forbidden and possibly career ending romance ensues. When that romance gets tangled up in the secret of Quill Marine and its OverCompany, Sierra, Dak and Matt have some serious choices to make.

Review

Steal the Stars is a stunningly shiny new podcast from Mac Rogers, the brilliant mind behind Life/After and The Message. This podcast is a solid choice for fans of sci-fi, heists, aliens, and romance.

The podcast would profit from transcripts released by Gideon Media or Tor Labs. Some words are hard to understand, but the podcast would lose some of its authenticity if the actors began speaking too formally. Let your mind wander while listening at your own risk, you may miss an important plot point or two.

This podcast features realistic portrayals of what it is like to be an active duty soldier. None of the information relayed is particularly disturbing, but it does keep listeners on the edge of their seats during certain portions of the podcast.

Every character in this podcast is multifaceted. Dak is a highly relatable character, and its endlessly refreshing to see a woman on the forefront of a sci-fi franchise. Dak’s quick thinking, defensiveness, and professionalism are all called into question. Dak’s questioning of Matt’s attraction to her on the basis of comparing their looks to one another was so real, and so well written, I sat up in bed as I was listening.

The romance plot is central to the storyline, so if you’re not comfortable with kissing noises or semi-frequent sex scenes, this isn’t the podcast for you.
