Cryptids tells the story of a conspiracy radio show host and an avid listener who go in search of an afterlife. Instead they find a truth beyond their wildest nightmares. In this female driven, scripted, sci-fi audio drama, you’ll meet monsters, aliens…and the ultimate grim reaper.

Twin Peaks meets Wayward Pines in this delightfully eerie series brought to us from Wild Obscura Films and just in time for Halloween too! While the year isn’t quite over, Cryptids has managed to weasel its way up into my top ten list for podcasts and I have a suspicion that it’ll stay that way.  It’s one of the few subscriptions in my podcast queue that I find myself anxiously awaiting the next episode. The anticipation is strong with this show. 

Written by Alexander V. Thompson and directed by Devin Shepherd, this thoroughly enjoyable listen is compelling, complex and features my new favorite podcast duo. Cryptids does a wonderful job of establishing Eve (Marianna McClellan) and Trevor (Thompson) as flawed and/or broken characters while still making them a likable and dynamic duo. No doubt the wonderful acting defiantly helps too. The cherry on top of it all is the fantastic production quality, (Gina Zdanowicz, sound design) which will keep you on your toes. Trust me, it’ll be the new/creepiest part of your day.

The story is great, the dialogue is very believable plus the episodes don’t drone on. They aren’t too long, too short, they’re just right and know exactly  where to end for the perfect cliffhanger. If you’re like me and you love a good, weird fiction podcast then Cryptids is the podcast for you! I highly recommend and fans of other podcasts such as Blackwood, Homecoming or The Black Tapes will eat this stuff up.
