Pottermore has gifted us with some new details regarding the Fantastic Beasts sequel. We learn about the plot, what characters we can expect to see, some new faces plus where the film will take place! Principal photography for the film began today, so what goodies were they able to tell us?

The plot will see Grindlewald escaping from MACUSA custody in a “dramatic escape”. Dumbledore will be forced to use his hand and help the wizard community in stopping him. Dumbledore seeks help in Newt, may be due to their previous encounter. Grindlewald will be very busy adding new followers to his ranks.

Our favorite Obscurial, Credence (Ezra Miller) is set to return in a “mysterious way”. Some of the best news sees loveable no-maj Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) returning as well. The core four consisting of Newt, Tina, Queenie and Jacob will all return. However, the film’s events will test their loyalties while the wizarding world becomes more dangerous.

As for new characters, it looks like we’re heading to a circus! Skender (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) is the owner of a wizarding circus with Claudia Kim playing one of the “featured attractions”. We also have a bounty hunter named Grimmson (Ingvar Sigurdsson) and a wizard named Yusuf Kama (William Nadylam). We’re not sure how they all play into the plot but yay for new faces! Additionally, we will see Newt’s older brother, Theseus Scamander and Leta Lestrange (Zoë Kravitz) returns.

So where will the plot be taking us? It appears 3 different cities! New York, London and Paris. We had seen New York in the first film and the Harry Potter films took place in England. So to see the Parisian wizarding world will be a first! I’m curious if the circus will take place in Paris, making it a large culture shock for Newt like America was.
