During today’s PlayStation State of Play, we saw trailers for upcoming projects coming to the console. They closed the show with some news we have been waiting for – what is coming next for Final Fantasy VII Remake. The next update, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, will bring a brand new chapter and updated graphics for the PlayStation 5.
The first major announcement came in the form of a new episode releasing exclusively on the PS5. It will feature new characters like the iconic Yuffie Kisaragi, who players will get the chance to play as. She is on a mission to infiltrate the Shinra Corporation when she meets up with Avalance after the events of the game’s first episode. It turns out the group has no idea where Cloud is. This is a great chance for Square Enix to flush out other characters’ stories as they planned on expanding past the original story in Final Fantasy VII for the remake.

The next announcement was an update to gameplay on the PS5. Players will be able to immerse themselves in the city of Midgar like never before. We will be getting improved textures, lighting and even background environments. Players will now be able to swap between two game modes that either prioritize graphics or performance. Graphics mode will give us the 4K high-resolution graphics, while performance mode will give us smooth action at 60 frames per second. Square Enix has also added a photo mode that will allow players to capture and share their memorable moments with friends and family.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will also be getting new difficulty settings for ‘Classic Mode’ to provide more ways to enjoy the game. They are also making use of the DualSense wireless controller so players can enjoy immersive battles within the story. And of course, with all of these updates comes even faster loading times so players can jump right into the action! As a thank you to everyone who purchased the game originally on the PlayStation 4, Square Enix is providing them a free PS5 enhancement update that will include all next-gen visual and gameplay enhancements.
Players who purchased Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS4 and upgrade to PS5 can purchase the new episode featuring Yuffie as a standalone download from the PlayStation Store. Owners of the disc version of Final Fantasy VII Remake on PS4 will require a PS5 console with a disc drive in order to take advantage of this digital upgrade.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will release on June 10, 2021 for the PS5. Check out the two trailers from the PlayStation State of Play below! Are you excited to head back to Midgar? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
