From Guerrilla Games to Naughty Dog, Sony has no shortage of legendary first-party studios on the PlayStation roster. Now, that roster includes Bungie. That’s right: the creators of Halo and Destiny are now part of the PlayStation family!
Fear not, Destiny players. You don’t have to rush to get a PS5 just yet. Jim Ryan (Sony’s president and CEO) reassures Bungie will be independent and multiplatform. Anything they make for PlayStation will also be on Xbox (and possibly PC).
Bungie has already developed some proprietary tools. Hermen Hulst (Head of PlayStation Worldwide Studios) shares his excitement.
“Bungie makes games with outstanding technology that are enormously fun to play,” Hulst said, “They also have unmatched dedication to the communities that play their games, and everyone at PlayStation, and PlayStation Studios, will be excited about what we can share and learn from them.”

Bungie has been making games for over three decades. As such, the developer values its creative freedom. Pete Parsons (CEO of Bungie) explains how Sony not only allows them to hire talent across PlayStation’s connections but also understands Bungie’s player community comes first.
“In Sony, we have found a partner who unconditionally supports us in all we are and who wants to accelerate our vision to create generation-spanning entertainment,” Parsons described, “All while preserving the creative independence that beats in Bungie’s heart.”
Bungie faced allegations last December that employees have endured a patriarchal workplace, crunch and gender discrimination since at least 2011. Parsons issued a formal apology in response. He also announced efforts to eliminate such “rockstar” attitudes at the studio. PlayStation’s partnership is hopefully a good sign that efforts to root out toxic workplace culture are working.
What do you think? Are you excited about the new collaboration for Bungie and PlayStation? Do you wish Bungie remained an independent developer and publisher? Or are you simply itching to play Destiny 2: The Witch Queen regardless? Geek Girl Authority has all the news on video games and more, so stay tuned!
