SPOON!

At first you may feel disappointment that Patrick Warburton is not returning as the lead in the Amazon reboot of The Tick. Then, there’s unbridled joy when it is announced that Peter Serafinowicz has been cast as the comic book hero. Peter Serafinowicz!!!

There really couldn’t be a better nerd for the role. Peter Serafinowicz first got geekdom’s attention as the roommate in Shaun of the Dead. He went on to voice Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace and has also appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Who. He was also really fantastic in Spy!

The casting was announced today on the new adaptation of Ben Edlund’s well-loved character. Edlund created the live action show in 2004 (in which, Warburton played The Tick) and also created the animated series in the 90’s. He will be involved with the new Amazon reboot as an Executive Producer and writer. Patrick Warburton is also still involved with the project as an Executive producer.

According to Deadline:

The reboot is bringing back the eponymous muscle-bound, antennae-sporting superhero (Serafinowicz). In the new incarnation, the blue-suited Tick is recovering from a memory loss and ends up reteaming with his sidekick Arthur (Griffin Newman) to fight evil. The two are surrounded by a new host of characters that include Arthur’s sister Dot (Valorie Curry).
