In an interview with Variety, Steven Moffat confirmed that Peter Capaldi will be returning to Doctor Who, but in sad news Clara will not. We already knew this but the way that Moffat explains her departure, it seems like it will be a devastating loss. In a seperate interview, he said:
Clara is gone and will never return. I will not reveal any forecast about her fate. I can only say that what will happen will shock, terrify and surprise. Strictly in that order. – Movieplayer
I will prepare myself for tears. I cry at the drop of the hat already during Doctor Who, I’m sure I will need snuggles and ice cream when Jenna Coleman leaves. My hope is that they find a way to reunite her with Danny Pink. Please Mr. Moffat!
Steven Moffat also confirmed that Doctor Who will be on the air for the next five years, at least. Let’s keep Doctor Who on the air for an even hundred years. Now, that would be amazing and historical!
