Disney Plus recently announced that they were creating a series based on Rick Riordan‘s Percy Jackson novels. We are beyond excited just knowing that. But then today, Variety dropped the exclusive news that Walker Scobell will be taking on the lead role of Percy.

Percy Jackson follows the tale of Percy, who learns and must come to terms with the idea that he is a modern-day demigod. If this wasn’t hard enough, Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt, sending Percy on a journey across America to find and restore order to Olympus. Talk about a lot of problems for a 12-year-old. Currently, Riordan and Jon Steinberg are writing the pilot for the series with James Bobin directing.

The magical world of Percy Jackson is one that many are familiar with. From the many novels to the two feature films and even a musical, chances are you have at least heard of this tale. We are excited to see the story told through the format of television, giving them time to flesh out Percy and his fellow demigods and give us exciting action and emotional moments. And, of course, we have hopes that the series will do so well on Disney Plus that we get six seasons and a movie. Maybe not another film, but you get our excitement.

We are still early on in Percy Jackson‘s production, but now that casting news has started, be prepared to learn even more info and excitement! What are your thoughts on this casting? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
