Get excited, Half-Bloods; it’s time for another Percy Jackson and the Olympians trailer! Disney+ released a new, full-length trailer today, and it’s everything I hoped for. Read on for our full breakdown.

Based on the best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians books by Rick Riordan, the show follows Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell), a 12-year-old who never fits in. When he learns he’s a demigod and the son of Poseidon (Toby Stephens), he heads to Camp Half-Blood to train with other kids like him. Soon, however, he ends up in the middle of a war between the gods. Percy must travel cross-country and to the Underworld if he wants to save everyone.

Season 1 appears to follow the plot of book one, The Lightning Thief. While Percy is still coming to terms with his powers, Zeus (Lance Reddick) accuses him of stealing his famous lightning bolt. Together with Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri), Percy sets off to clear his name and save the world.

The new trailer opens with an adorably young Percy and his mom, Sally (Virginia Kull). They’re at a museum, looking at a statue of his namesake, Perseus. Sally tells him that Perseus was “brave and kind and, against all odds, he managed to find his way to a happy ending.” Percy says the world feels weird, “like a puzzle with half the wrong pieces.” There’s no way, however, that he’ll guess what’s coming next.

The rest of the trailer gives a deeper look into this world than we’ve seen before. There’s a quick look at the Poseidon cabin, war games at Camp Half-Blood and even Poseidon himself. We even get a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it look at Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus, Hawaiian shirt and all. Overall, plenty of elements will excite fans of the original books.

The main focus, however, is on Percy and his allies, Grover and Annabeth. As the centaur Chiron (Glynn Turman) says, “A quest is always undertaken by three.” While Percy confides in Annabeth that he doesn’t feel like he belongs, the trio sails through a tunnel, fights monsters on a train and ends up in a casino where Lin-Manuel Miranda, aka Hermes, welcomes them.

This full trailer captures the humor, intensity and heart of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians books, and I can’t wait to see more. The first two episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians debut on Disney+ on December 20, 2023. Will you be watching? Let us know below!
