Demigods, rejoice! Percy Jackson and the Olympians is getting closer, and Disney+ released a teaser trailer for the show earlier this week. Read on to find out what we know about the series and get a breakdown of the trailer.

Based on the best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians books by Rick Riordan, the series follows 12-year-old Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) as he learns he’s a demigod and heads to Camp Half-Blood to train with other kids like him. Soon, however, he ends up in the center of a war between the gods and must travel to the Underworld if he wants to save everyone.

It looks like season one follows the plot of book one, The Lightning Thief. As he’s coming to terms with his powers, Zeus (Lance Reddick) accuses Percy of stealing his lightning bolt. Together with Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries) and Grover (Aryan Simhadri), he sets off on a cross-country adventure to clear his name and save the world.

The new Percy Jackson and the Olympians trailer opens with an edgy cover of Vance Joy’s “Riptide” (a sly reference to Percy’s sword). There’s also a voiceover taken straight from the books. While wandering the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Percy declares, “My name is Percy Jackson. Am I a troubled kid? Yeah, you could say that.” When math teacher Mrs. Dodds (Megan Mullally) sprouts wings and attacks Percy, things quickly get weird.

The rest of the trailer shows Percy’s arrival at Camp Half-Blood, reveals Grover’s goat legs and sees Percy setting out on his quest. There are also quick looks at the centaur Chiron (Glynn Turman), Ares (Adam Copeland) and more. We even see Sally Jackson (Virginia Kull) outdriving the minotaur. Through it all is a montage of the other half-bloods, gods and monsters we have to look forward to.

The first two episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians premiere on Disney+ on December 20, 2023. How excited are you about this new adaptation? Let us know below, and keep an eye out for more news as it comes.
