Lance Reddick in Resident Evil and Toby Stephens in Black Sails.

Over the past few months, news and cast announcements have been coming out quite frequently for the upcoming Disney Plus series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. But they have been quiet when it came to two essential characters. Well, that is until today. Variety dropped exclusive news for the casting of both Zeus and Poseidon, and folx get ready to be excited.

Lance Reddick, who has single-handedly won our hearts with his roles in Resident Evil and The Legend of Vox Machina, will be portraying Zeus. And Black SailsToby Stephens will take on the part of Poseidon. Both characters play a significant role in Percy’s (Walker Scobell) journey to find who stole Zeus’ master lightning bolt. And while Poseidon is quite the absent dad (what god isn’t?), many of his qualities live on in Percy. It will be exciting to see these two heavy hitters bring the two iconic gods to life.

The plot of the first season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will follow closely to Rick Riordan‘s first novel, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. We will get the chance to see Percy come to terms with being a demigod and have Stephens’ Poseidon as a father while also setting off across the country to find the thief or risk all-out war. It’s going to be electrifying.

Reddick and Stephens will join Scobell, Aryan Simhadri, Leah Sava Jeffries, Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally and Tim Sharp. It has also been announced that Dior Goodjohn, Olivea Morton, Charlie Bushnell, Adam Copeland, Suzanne Cryer, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Timothy Omundson and Jay Duplass have joined the cast.

There is still no date for the release of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. However, with Reddick and Stephens on board, we will need it sooner rather than later. What are your thoughts about this casting? Let us know in the comments below and on social media!
