In an interview with Variety, actress Gwyneth Paltrow unleashed a bomb. She will no longer be a part of the MCU. While the fates of many characters still lie in the balance of what happens in Avengers: Endgame, we now know that no matter what happens, Pepper Potts is leaving.

Paltrow told the magazine, “I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point.” However, she continued by expressing her joy in the films. “I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it. I was friend with [Iron Man director] Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience making the first Iron Man and then to watch how important it has become to fans.” While the actress hasn’t ruled out cameos or flashback appearances, she’s officially retiring the character.

While this news wouldn’t have been surprising a few years ago, it is interesting to say it now. Especially since there was a leaked image of her in her own Iron Man suit, likely using the alias Rescue. Why call it quits when you finally have a suit, Gwyneth?! To be fair, the exit of Paltrow is a smart choice. Since the films are evolving, what place does Tony Stark’s girlfriend have in the stories now? Since we don’t know her ultimate fate, it’s a bit early to call the character dying in the film. However, since she announced it now, it does make you wonder if her story is over in the MCU.

What do you think of the news? Do you think Pepper Potts will die in the films or she’ll make it? Let us know! Be sure to come back to Geek Girl Authority for more MCU news. Avengers: Endgame is storming into theaters April 26, 2019.
