As reported by TV Line, Epix drama Pennyworth will spawn the beginnings of The Dark Knight in Season Two. Otherwise known as The Caped Crusader. Well, most folks refer to him as Batman. Executive producer Danny Cannon made the official announcement at DC FanDome on Saturday.
Martha Kane (Emma Paetz) and Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) will soon be expecting a tiny vigilante in Pennyworth. Yes — Martha will be pregnant with Bruce Wayne. Now, in the wake of the Season One finale, we’ll see Alfred (Jack Bannon) champing at the bit. He longs to leave London behind permanently for a new life in America. However, Alfred’s familial loyalties remain in London. Meanwhile, Thomas returns to America to recuperate from a gunshot wound. He’ll also begin to rise through the CIA ranks. Martha will remain in London amid all this. Cannon hinted that her transformation is “probably the largest because she has gone full-on into the civil war.” Perhaps literally and figuratively?
Pennyworth also has a casting call out for Lucius Fox. As for other roles, the core cast is returning for Season Two.
In my humble opinion, I’m excited to see how the series evolves from Bruce Wayne’s conception and beyond. How Pennyworth plans to continually foster the connection between Alfred and the Wayne couple. Season One, while it retained a smaller fan base, received favorable reviews. Here’s to seeing where Season Two will take us.
