We have Alfred! Back in May we learned that Bruce Wayne’s father figure, butler, and Bat-suit washer Alfred would be getting a solo prequel series in Pennyworth. But instead of solely focusing on the former British SAS soldier, he’ll apparently be meeting a friend. Yesterday we learned that Thomas Wayne will be joining the 10 episode series as well. But who will be playing these famous comic book characters?

Jack Bannon has been cast as the faithful Alfred Pennyworth. The series will center on the young man in his 20s, starting up his own security company in the 1960s. His first client? A young, American billionaire Thomas Wayne. THR describes Alfred as “boyishly handsome, cheerful, charming, clever young man”. He’s “honest, open-faced and witty” and doesn’t seem the kind of man to be an “SAS killer”. “Alfred doesn’t know how to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he used to be with the cold, calculated killer he was forced to become. He’s a man on the make, who doesn’t know what to make of himself yet.” Interesting. It seems like they’re going to lean into Alfred’s heart more than his skills.

Thomas Wayne will be played by Ben Aldridge, according to Deadline. While there isn’t much known about him, he’s said to be a “young, fresh-faced billionaire hailing from the East Coast of the United States”. He’s confident and “extremely disciplined”, finding “an unlikely business partner” in Alfred. While it’s a bit of a reach, saying how disciplined he is immediately gives me Bruce Wayne vibes. You don’t become The Batman by trying out a karate class. It’ll be pretty interesting to see how they play off the mythos with these characters, especially Thomas.

Production is said to start this month in London as it gears up for it’s Epix debut. While we’re not sure when the series will air, we’ll be keeping our eyes out for more news.
