The Last of Us series is based on the highly acclaimed and widely successful video game The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog as a PlayStation exclusive. The game follows Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, and Joel, her guide and protector, as they travel the post-apocalyptic United States. The world, devastated by a deadly plague and overrun by even deadlier enemies, makes for a dark and bleak setting. Throughout their journey, they encounter factions of survivors but in the end, Joel and Ellie can only rely on each other. It is a heartbreaking and hopeful story of survival and found family.
The Last of Us, is being executive produced by the game’s writer and creative director Neil Druckmann along with Chernobyl creator and writer Craig Mazin.
With Ramsey’s casting news, there were rumors that Mahershala Ali was being approached to play Joel, but those rumors were never confirmed. The news of Pascal’s casting should not come as a major surprise, as he is coming off the success of Season 2 of The Mandalorian and his role in Wonder Woman 1984. With the two leads in place, we can expect to hear more updates regarding supporting characters in the weeks and months to come.
HBO has not yet announced the release date of The Last of Us.
