International sweetheart Pedro Pascal might be adding “Marvel” to his impressive resume. According to Deadline, the sought-after thespian is purportedly in talks to join Marvel’s highly anticipated Fantastic Four flick. Pascal could take on the role of Reed Richards, Deadline reports.

After months of speculation took social media by storm, it’s worth mentioning that this is the first actor officially reported on by major outlets. The three-time Emmy nominee is far from accepting the role, but the negotiation process favorably leans toward a deal.

Pascal is one of the most in-demand actors in the industry, stemming from his breakout role as the ill-fated Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones. Then, he starred as Javier Peña in Netflix’s Narcos, followed by the titular lead as Din Djarin in The Mandalorian, which catapulted him to international stardom. Next, he portrayed villain Maxwell Lord in 2020’s Wonder Woman 1984. 2022 brought on another starring role opposite Nicolas Cage in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, with early 2023 ushering in HBO’s The Last of Us, where he plays Joel alongside Bella Ramsey’s Ellie.

The actor has a busy year ahead of him, including filming for The Last of Us Season 2, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 and Zach Cregger’s Weapons. Scheduling appears to play a significant role in sealing the deal for Pascal.

Deadline reveals that Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman is in pre-production on the film, intending to shoot in early 2024. The rest of the main cast hasn’t been announced as of writing. However, rumors swirl that Vanessa Kirby will play Sue Storm.

If this were any other A-list actor, I’d be wary (and probably complain of oversaturation). However, if true, this couldn’t happen to a nicer person. Pascal has repeatedly proven his kindness and humility and has the talent to back it up. While he wouldn’t be my first choice for Richards, I’ve no doubt he’ll kill it.
