We’ve got some more movement on the soon-to-be-filming DCEU film, Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa in the lead role as the titular King of Atlantis. Apparently, according to Deadline, Aquaman’s authority-hungry brother, Orm, a.k.a. Ocean Master, will be in the film.
According to Deadline, the role will be filled the the James Wan regular, Patrick Wilson, who was last seen in Wan’s film, The Conjuring 2. There’s no word on if Ocean Master will be the primary antagonist or if he’ll be someone working with Black Manta or some other villain. Neither direction is unprecedented given he’s worked solo and with other villains in the comics.
In the comics, Orm believes he is due the throne for Atlantis more so than his brother, and is willing to use the full might of the world’s oceans to achieve his ends. That’s his special power, by the way — controlling the oceans, which is pretty powerful.
Seeing Orm in the film in any capacity, immediately leads us to believe that this will have a fair share of deep sea politics. Whether we see him initially as an ally, eventually becoming an antagonist, or a villain from the start, there’s guaranteed to be no fair share of love lost between Aquaman and Orm.
