What would it be like if there was a massively multiplayer online game (or MMO) that took all the best aspects of Stardew Valley and the Harvest Moon series and combined them? Farming? Check. Crafting? Check. Romanceable NPCs or non-playable characters? Check, check and check them out, wowzers! Thankfully, that dream will be a reality soon thanks to Singularity 6, a new game studio created by former developers from other major studios such as Blizzard and Riot Games. Palia is set to start pre-Alpha sometime soon, and soon-to-be players are anxiously awaiting their keys.
Most MMOs revolve around some form of fighting and leveling, crafting weapons and armor, then battling friends in player vs player (PVP) or saving the world from near-certain destruction. Palia boasts something different: a world dedicated to farming, building, cooking, hunting and customizing your home and community. What other MMOs consider insignificant social time, Palia considers integral.

Palia gives players a home right at the very beginning of their adventure. From there, players can interact with the world around them. For example, they can chop wood for crafting materials, decorate their home with over 1000 decor items or fish with the pebble-loving robot named Einar. Neighborhoods are guilds where players compete in community competitions or revitalize the town. NPCs can be befriended or romanced. Prefer more solo gameplay? Solo or semi-social players can create their own little lands in Palia as well!
With $16.5 million raised and 50 developers on board Singularity 6, Palia is a game-changer when it comes to online sim gameplay. Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing already have online play integrated, but friends are simply given invites to play together when another is online. In Palia, friends can meet each other in the world at any time and servers are currently a non-issue. The trailer below, released on June 3, shows us what this world will look like and the characters we may encounter.
We don’t have an official release date, but the pre-alpha is set to start soon! You can learn more and sign up for your keys on the official website!
