The full trailer for Our Flag Means Death season 2 is finally here, and to say it’s wild would be an understatement. Stede has an earring, Jim has a mohawk and everyone’s heads are literally getting crushed. Read on for our full breakdown of the epic trailer.

Our Flag Means Death follows the fictionalized relationship between real-life historical pirates Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) a.k.a. Ed. After leaving his comfortable life as a gentleman to become a pirate, Stede struggles to earn his crew’s respect as he learns the ropes. Eventually, he crosses paths with the infamous Blackbeard. The two find friendship — and more — together on the high seas.

The show originally premiered in March 2022 on Max. It was an instant hit and spent nearly 10 weeks at the top of the streaming charts. Max renewed Our Flag Means Death on June 1, 2022, and people have been craving more of the pirate comedy ever since.

Season 2 appears to pick up where things left off. While Ed is apparently holding a grudge after the love of his life supposedly abandoned him, Stede has taken up the search. The trailer opens with a morose Stede regretting the fact that he never really told Ed how he felt about him. He vows to track him down, even though Oluwande (Samson Kayo) remarks that Blackbeard will probably murder him. There’s also a lot of back and forth on whether or not Stede dumped Ed, or they’re just “on a break.”

Meanwhile, Blackbeard’s crew worries for their captain, who’s looking a little worse for wear.  Ed himself declares “It’s a new day. No more booze, no more drugs and, more importantly, no more Stede.” That is, of course, easier said than done, as the two reunite in what looks like a market stall.

The rest of the trailer sees the British navy gearing up to end piracy once and for all, and a whole lot of battles. Other small details include what looks Wee John (Kristian Nairn) in drag, the crew warding off vampires and maybe a blink-and-you-miss-it Lucius (Nathan Foad) sighting. And because it wouldn’t be Our Flag Means Death without great music, everything is set to Patti Smith’s “Because the Night”.

New episodes of Our Flag Means Death premiere on Max on Thursday, October 5. How excited are you to rejoin the crew? Do you think Stede and Ed will get back together? Check out the full trailer and a bonus new poster and then let us know below.
