It’s been a long wait for season 2 of everyone’s favorite pirate comedy romance Our Flag Means Death. But today’s a big day for patient fans – we finally have a teaser trailer! Maybe best of all, there’s officially a release date for the new episodes. Read on for a breakdown of the trailer.
Our Flag Means Death premiered in March 2022. The show was an instant hit, spending nearly 10 weeks at the top of streaming charts. On June 1, Max renewed the pirate comedy for a second season. Up until the last few weeks, however, there wasn’t much concrete news about upcoming episodes.

Our Flag Means Death follows the fictionalized relationship between real-life historical pirates Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) a.k.a. Ed. After leaving the life of a gentleman to become a pirate, Stede struggles with earning his crew’s respect and comes across the infamous Blackbeard. The two find friendship — and even romance — together on the high seas.
Season 1 ended with a pretty dramatic breakup between Stede and Ed. While Ed is apparently holding a grudge after thinking the love of his life abandoned him, Stede has taken up the search. The trailer opens with Stede kissing a message in a bottle and tossing it out to see. His voiceover plays throughout the trailer: “Dear Ed, I love everything about you, I love being near you, breathing the same air…” Ed’s main line, however? “F**k you, Stede Bonnet.”
The trailer continues with Prince‘s “The Beautiful Ones” playing in the background. It goes on to show Blackbeard crashing a wedding, Stede meeting up with Minnie Driver‘s Anne Bonney, and the rest of The Revenge’s crew getting into some high-seas hijinks. It ends with Ed apparently about to crush Stede’s head, and the announcement of an October 5 release date.
