From Variety, Oscar Isaac, star of Inside Llewyn Davis, has officially signed a deal with Fox to play the titular villain in X-Men: Apocalypse, directed by Bryan Singer and written by Simon Kinberg.

Of the movie, Singer said, “‘Apocalypse’ will have more of the mass destruction that ‘X-Men’ films, to date, have not relied upon… There’s definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle.”

Apocalypse, for those of you who aren’t familiar, is considered to be the world’s first and oldest mutant and also one of the most powerful. In the comics, he can alter the density and shape of his body, as well as fire energy blasts. Celestial technology has made him pretty much immortal and whenever he returns, he genetically altars four other humans or mutants to be his “Four Horsemen.” Gambit, Wolverine, Sunfire and Angel have all been various Horsemen for him. Angel, in fact, was transformed into Archangel for most of the 90’s and into the 2000’s.

X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled for May 2016.
