It’s become apparent that while the series focused on Lucy (Krysten Ritter) when it premiered, Kira’s (Keeley Hawes) been the heart of the story. As the consequences of her choices come home to roost in Orphan Black: Echoes Season 1 Episode 7, “The Dog’s Honest Truth,” she must take the courageous route to right things.
As she dives into the information Josh (Izad Etemadi) left behind when he killed himself in front of her — and how much trauma do you live through to be able to shrug that off so easily? — it’ll be interesting to see how she puts her technological genie back in the bottle.
Orphan Black: Echoes’s “The Dog’s Honest Truth”
Assuming we’ve now met all the print-outs — three Eleanor Millers (Rya Kihlstedt) and one Paul Darros (James Hiroyuki Liao), for those of you keeping track — it feels like Kira is coming into this too late for any cut-and-dried sort of ethical solution. She might’ve been able to protect Lucy and provide her with a relatively natural lifespan. With Eleanor 2.0, there’s a considerably shorter expected survival time. But while Kira might’ve kept the ruse up for the world, it’s already falling apart with her wife.

However, with Jules (Amanda Fix) and Xander (Vinson Tran) now in play and Darros in possession of a functioning person printer, Kira’s going to need high-powered allies and top-level intel to pull off a full reversal. Dare we hope Uncle Felix (Jordan Garvaris) may return, or could Aunt Cosima (Tatiana Maslany) herself swoop to the rescue?
The show’s creators deserve kudos for the fun twist on the Orphan Black central plot device. Instead of one actress playing all the sestras, they give us three actresses playing three versions of one character. Fun.
Well, it’s not fun for Lucy or Jules … or Eleanor 2.0 when she cottons onto what Kira’s done. There’s also Lucas (Jaeden Noel) to consider. How will his Quaker-influenced sensibilities react to learning one of his moms printed a copy of his other mom while hiding her death from him?
Meanwhile, things aren’t going well at the Darros Compound. His expectations of Xander are as high as they are for himself. Without a life of hardship to temper his will to unyielding standards, Xander will always fall short due to inexperience and naïveté. How will the impressionable print-out manage in a showdown with the instinctively street-smart Jules?

The burning question that seems to have been back-burnered since Eleanor Miller was named is Jules and Lucy’s shared memory of the bloody bathroom. Since Melissa (Kathy Baker) can’t help them with a straight answer, can Eleanor 2.0 fill in the details? Why is the memory so ingrained that the print-outs can’t shake it? Whose blood was it? Did teenage Eleanor wield the knife?
New episodes of Orphan Black: Echoes air on Sundays at 10 pm ET/PT on AMC, AMC+ and BBC America.
