With an entire episode of Orphan Black: Echoes devoted to Kira (Keeley Hawes) and Eleanor’s (Rya Kihlstedt) story, it’s time for some Jules (Amanda Fix) time with “Unless You Trusted Someone.” The fallout from the excitement at Melissa’s (Kathy Baker) care home hits hard as she and Neva (Alex Castillo) try to sort out the truth of her identity.

Meanwhile, Kira grapples with the idea there’s a print-out of a 16-year-old version of her dead wife running around, confused and upset. She’ll seek answers from Josh (Izad Etemadi) and Darros (James Hiroyuki Liao).

Orphan Black: Echoes, “Unless You Trusted Someone”
The episode’s title could refer to either Kira or Jules. In Kira’s case, someone betrayed her by printing Jules. It never made sense why she would want a teenage version of her wife, especially in light of their son, Lucas (Jaeden Noel). How would she ever explain Jules to Lucas? Yeah, despite her intention to destroy the machine once Lucy had been printed, something went off-script.

But the title’s even more fitting for Jules, as she has been completely suspicious of everyone involved since before she knew she was a print-out. What will Neva reveal about how she came to live with them? How will James (Adam Kenneth Wilson) react to her origins?
The images for the episode suggest that she’s about to spend a lot of time with Paul Darros. He’s known about her this whole time. So, no matter who pushed the button that printed her, he probably gave the order.

How Many More Print-Outs Could There Be?
What is Darros’s endgame? What does Jules mean to him? Why would he order a teenaged Eleanor Miller? In the flashback, Young Eleanor (Krysten Ritter with bangs) seemed unimpressed with his save-the-world altruism. Does he think meeting her at a more impressionable age will get them off on better footing? And why? (Also, has he even met Jules? Major miscalculation.)

So, all this suggests that Jules was a practice run for a different print-out or multiple print-outs. Is Darros’s outward savior complex really just a masked god complex? Are print-outs his end run around the laws prohibiting cloning? Could he be hoarding the genetic schematics of all the brilliant scientists he’s brought to his compound so he can print a few whenever he needs them?

Also, who’s the young guy with Jules? How does he factor in? Because if we’ve learned anything so far, it’s that neither Jules nor Lucy ever spends time with anyone who isn’t a major player in their stories.
New episodes of Orphan Black: Echoes air on Sundays at 10 pm ET/PT on AMC, AMC+ and BBC America.
