Marvel fans are getting the sustenance they need on this fine Monday! Firstly, we were blessed with a teaser for the highly anticipated Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Then, we learned from The Hollywood Reporter that prolific actress Olivia Colman is in negotiations to star alongside Samuel L. Jackson in Secret Invasion! Jackson will, once again, take up the mantle of former S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury.
Now, this will serve as Colman’s official Marvel debut. Colman, who was last seen in Netflix’s The Crown as Queen Elizabeth II, is joining Ben Mendelsohn. Mendelsohn will reprise his role as Talos from the 2019 flick Captain Marvel. In addition, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Kingsley Ben-Adir, who starred as Malcolm X in Amazon’s One Night in Miami, has been added to Secret Invasion‘s roster. Colman and Ben-Adir’s roles are being kept under wraps.

Secret Invasion will utilize the events in Captain Marvel as a catalyst for the series. While the movie introduced Skrulls into the MCU, it’s unclear what role they’ll play in Secret Invasion. As per Marvel’s usual, specific plot details are scant.
So far, we know that Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot) will write and executive produce Secret Invasion. Besides The Crown, Olivia Colman is best known for 2018’s The Favourite, which scored her an Oscar. Her other credits include Broadchurch, Fleabag, Flowers and The Night Manager. Colman will next be heard in The Mitchells vs. the Machines, an animated film about the robot apocalypse.
Personally, I’m elated regarding Colman’s casting. She’s a force of nature. I’m curious if she’ll work alongside Fury or against him. Not to mention, the addition of both Mendelsohn and Ben-Adir makes this a top-tier Marvel cast. Bring it on!
Secret Invasion is eyeing a fall production start in the UK and Europe.
